Presenting

Charita Coleman-Gladdis

I've always loved to style my hair. I was indirectly trained to believe that it needed to be permed to get a pretty curl or extensions added to get that flow of beauty.  I have for as long as I can remember wanted to wear my hair just the way God made it, but it was not in style. And I admit I am indeed into styling! So for years I arrived at beauty shops with resentment because I knew it was going to be an all day thang. Suddenly I started witnessing courageous black women styling & profiling with their own beautiful hair.
I THANK THE SISTERS THAT WENT NATURAL BEFORE ME FOR THEY PAVED THE WAY!

Anyway, In 2002 I experience 3 drastic situations that caused me to sit back, be still, pray & ponder this question
“   WHO ARE YOU”.

I began to redefine myself; mentally, spiritually & physically. The hair was part of my physical transformation. I was done with fake weaves and burning my roots on a deep level.

Charita Braids

I called around and sought out the Natural Queens that I had crossed paths with. I didn’t know if I wanted twist but I knew I wanted something that would bloom into something beautiful! I called a lady name Ericka & she told me about Sisterlocks, but she said she was not a certified consultant therefore could not do my hair, but she assured me she would contact her friend who would contact her friend that knew a Sisterlocks consultant.

So she did long story short I found someone to do my locks—at first I thought the cost was elaborate, but then I counted the cost of all the years I’ve spent money on weave & perm & of course repair from the breakage, I decided I am worth the investment. An investment that would enhance my beauty, an investment that would free me to be me to wear
my hair the way it was designed
NAPPY!

Natural

I love my decision to go natural, however, I must confess that I have had some natural disasters from fake locks to murdering my lovely Sisterlocks, but it’s all good because I love this natural journey and of course I love my Sisterlocks Journey

As India Arie says, “don’t get offended this is only my opinion” but--those who wear
Sisterlocks / Brotherlocks have a certain attitude. Not a better than, just convinced that
locks are a matter of the heart not necessarily a matter of hair.

By the way, although my husband is the Loc’ Man don’t think for a second that a sister get hers for free,,,,,,,,,,, he charges me if you know what I mean! (lol).
It is indeed wonderful how this journey allows us to cross paths with some
awesome people----together!

A brother went above & beyond to please his woman.

Now he is loc’ ing up the world one head at a time.
