Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are Sisterlocks?

Sisterlocks™ is a natural hair management system that allows women with tightly textured hair to take advantage of a wide range of today's hairstyles without having to alter the natural texture of their hair.

Q: Can men wear Sisterlocks?
Yes! but, we would not call them Sisterlocks™. They would be called 'Brotherlocks'™.

Q: Who is authorized to do Sisterlocks / Brotherlocks? How do I know that Robert is a  legitimate Sisterlocks / Brotherlocks Consultant?

Sisterlocks™ is a trademark company. This means that no one is authorized to use the  Sisterlocks™  name in advertising, or as a service they perform unless they have been trained by the Home Office or by one of our Certified Training Associates in an approved training class. Robert, "The Loc Man"  a Certified consultant welcomes you to contact the Home office to verify he's in good standing.

Q: Do I have to cut my relaxer off in order to get my hair done in Sisterlocks?
One of the great things about Sisterlocks™  is that you don't have to cut off your relaxer in order to start them. All you need is 1½ inches of new growth at the scalp to start the locks. Then you can trim the relaxed ends gradually over time as your natural locks grow in.

Q: If I have thin fragile hair can I still get my hair done in
    Sisterlocks
    / Brotherlocks?
Sisterlocks™ is much gentler on the hair-- then other forms of locks which involve twisting or palm rolling the hair. Sisterlocks™ would be the recommended hairstyle for fragile but healthy hair.  This technique requires no chemicals, no excessive tightening, and causes no damaging abrasion to the hair or scalp. You will find that with regularare, your locks will grow and grow, and your styling options will increase.

Q: How much does it cost to get Sisterlocks / Brotherlocks?
Prices are set according to information obtained during a detailed consultation.
The Loc Man offers Sisterlocks  / Brotherlocks  as a package of 3 visits.

The Sisterlocks  / Brotherlocks Package includes:
     1) The Consultation. During this question and answer session The Loc Man gets the opportunity to answer your questions.  You will become familiar with the locking process. Also a section of your hair is done in test locks.

    2) The Locking Session is when the entire head is done in Sisterlocks/ Brotherlocks.
At this time The Loc Man will provide you with an OFFICIAL CUSTOMER STARTER KIT containing the proper shampoo, Washing Bands and Tip Sheets.

    3) The Follow-up Visit takes place after 3 weeks.

Q: How do I find a Certified Consultant in my area?
The Loc Man serves the Greater Kalamazoo, Michigan area including:
Southwest Michigan, Grand Rapids, Battle Creek, Lansing,
     Detroit, Chicago and Indiana.

If you are located in another location, please refer to the section
"Consultants / Trainees" on the Sisterlock website.

Q: Are Sisterlocks / Brotherlocks permanent?
Because Sisterlocks  / Brotherlocks allows the hair's natural interlocking process to unfold, they are true "locks." This means that they are not meant to be undone.

Q: Can I re-tighten my hair myself once I have the Sisterlocks / Brotherlocksdone?
We recommend that clients work closely with their Consultants for at least 6 months before taking a re-tightening class.

Q: Can I put gels, oils, or grease in my hair once I have
    Sisterlocks
    / Brotherlocks done?
Our hair need moisture, not grease. The Sisterlocks  product line has been developed to clean and moisturize our natural hair type without loading it up with greases and other substances that pretend to make it shine by simply coating the hair shaft with something that glistens.
